Syabas unveils three online payment options

CONSUMERS in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya can now settle their water bills at 40 banks through the JomPAY system.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Snd Bhd (Syabas) chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Hassan said the JomPAY system was an expansion of an earlier system which was linked to 17 banks.

He said the system was made available through a collaboration between Syabas and CIMB Bank Bhd which acted as the coordinating institution.

“This will give consumers more options to pay their bills including through online banking,” he said during the launch of the water bill payment service.

A memorandum of agreement was also signed between Syabas, CIMB, Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation (MyClear), Epay Malaysia Sdn Bhd and MOL Accessportal Sdn Bhd.

Besides JomPAY, two other alternative payment services – e-pay and MOL – were introduced simultaneously.

Ruslan said e-pay would facilitate the payment of water bills at petrol stations while MOL was implemented at 7-Eleven stores.

“I hope consumers will take advantage of the many payment options.

“However, Syabas and Pos Malaysia will still accept over-the-counter payment,” he said, adding about 70% of consumers are now paying through alternative means.

Until the end of the year, Ruslan said Syabas would offer a special rebate to the first 100 customers daily who pay their bills through JomPAY .
