PTPTN repayments via JomPAY can win various Apple gadgets

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 Oct 2016:

There is now an easy way for borrowers from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to make payments – via the online channel JomPAY to boost the loan repayment performance.

The free service, provided by Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear), involved all the major banks to simultaneously provide multiple facilities to 1.9 million PTPTN borrowers.

The payment, via JomPAY, could encourage the public to use the online service as one of the methods of payment to PTPTN without having to go to the counter.

To encourage the public to make payment via JomPAY, numerous incentives were provided to winners of lucky draws who had performed many transactions.

Among the prizes provided during the latest promotion period until Jan 12 next year are the MacBook Air and Apple gadgets – iPad Air 2 and iWatch (Apple Watch Nike).

PTNTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the implementation of the repayment method is expected to boost repayment of loans to RM3 billion until the end of this year.

“Although, the trend of loan repayment has gone up so well we have yet to achieve the overall target of RM18.3 billion of the RM47 billion given out and now borrowers have no excuse not to make repayments via this method.”

Wan Ahmad said PTPTN aims to boost loan repayments via internet until year’s end by 20% and to simultaneously reduce payment at the counter, which was seen as burdening borrowers.

“Currently, 30% of payments are via internet, Employee Provident Fund (30%), counter (30%) and salary deductions (10%).”
